The Cost of Personal Training in Phoenix, Arizona 2024
Let’s get down to it (updated 2024)
This is a price sheet of the Phoenix area (Tempe, Chandler, Mesa, Gilbert and Scottsdale) for 1 on 1 Personal Training
The area that you live may differ but probably not by much. Well….unless you are in New York, San Francisco or LA.
One 1 hour session can range anywhere between 40 - 120+
$50 - $60 per hr (mostly beginners personal trainer trying to get started in the industry)
$60 - $90 per hr (industry standard for experienced trainers)
$90 - $140 per hr (big corporate gym and traveling trainers)
$150+ per hr (specialist and celebrity trainers)
50 to 60 Beginners personal trainer is definitely a hit or a miss. When you’re at this price point, you definitely need to shop around. See who might best fit your needs and that you get along with. I started here after my training at L.A. Fitness and even though I did help some clients I feel like I could have done better.
60 to 90 is the average rate for personal training. These trainers have been through 2+ years of training and know their ins and outs. They are mostly training at the local smaller gym or online versus big commercial gyms (Esporta, Golds, Lifetime and Crunch).
90 to 140 is the higher end rate for personal training. This is where you will find traveling trainers and corporate gym trainers.
Traveling Trainers: They typically ask for a higher rate because of the cost of gas, insurance and equipment. These trainers are good for people that are busy professionals and people that don’t feel too comfortable in a gym setting.
Big Box Gym: Gym such as Esporta, Crunch, 24 hrs and Lifetime. From my experience at a big box gym, many of them typically sell 30 minute sessions versus 1 hour and usually have a 6 months to 1 year contract. Most people that I was helping before are usually on that 1 (30 minute) session per week and they were paying 160/month (might be different now in 2024). Lifetime fitness charges higher, around 100-150 per hour sessions from what I researched.
I got my start at the Big Box Gym and I honestly had no clue what I was doing so I had to research ever little thing on text book. On the other hand my friend Maggie was an amazing trainer that for some reason still trained at the gym when I got started. Honestly the pay was like 13-20/hour which was definitely not enough for all the work we had to do for the clients. That’s the reason why most trainers leave to go on their own or train at a smaller gym. So it’s definitely a hit or miss, because you can get someone like me (a brand new college grad or took a 2 day certification course) or someone like Maggie who’s been doing it for years.
150+ price points here are luxury trainers, celebrity trainers and specialist. When you’re at this price point you are looking for a trainer that specialize in a certain thing. Whether it is a coach for marathon runners, bikini competitors, body builders, Olympic lifter and so on!
Personal training is not cheap even though it might be the best investment for your health. Do your research and find what’s healthy for your wallet and yourself!
My recommendation: Schedule a consultation with 3-4 trainers that may fit your need. Look for somebody that understands your situation, shows up on time, and you can see yourself working with for a long period of time. Train with them for a month and see what it is like.
Even though I have moved I am still offering Personal Training Virtually which honestly surprised me at how effective it is. When Covid 19 happened I thought personal training was going to be over but many of my clients stuck with me and really took their health into their hands.
They became much more active in the program that I designed and never missed a virtual sessions. Maybe it’s the convenience or maybe it was the unique circumstance but whatever it was results really showed.
