The Ultimate Tip to Losing Weight: Be a Good Boss to Yourself
Did you ever have that manager? You know, the good one.
Help you when you ask
Let you try things (even though you might fail)
Helps you learn from your mistakes rather than punish you for it
Not micromanaging
Works with your schedule
Actually care and not bullshit you
It doesn’t have to be a manager but maybe a teacher, professor, coach, or even your parents. Now compare how these great people in your life talk to you and how you talk to yourself.
During the pandemic some people were able to thrive and found their own rhythm with exercising and health but many others were still trying to adjust to the craziness of being under lockdown, working from home, the global pandemic, and worrying for family and friends. For the people that took the time to adjust, are you putting yourself down because in your head you “wasted” the time you had working from home? It's tough because most of us think that these negative self-talk will help motivate us to do better and to do more.
Imagine if you have a manager that would micromanage everything you do and any time you make a mistake and he or she would call you an idiot and ask why couldn't you be better. Does that help you get better? Probably not... If anything it may end up giving you anxiety every time you go to work. The same can happen with fitness and health. Most of the time the manager of your fitness and health is yourself and instead of empathizing, you criticize.
The next time you catch yourself in this state try separating yourself into 2 different people. One is you as a boss and become that “good” manager/boss/teacher/parent and coach your other self to do better next time.
A little bit of compassion goes a long way.
