3 Tips For Meal Prepping Beginners
MEAL PREPPING…
This is probably one of the most difficult things for many people to do, myself included. Think of it for the price of 4 - 12 dollars you can get a hot, steamy ready to go meal without the need to do any of the dishes. I mean how do we even compete with Chick fil-a, Panda Express, Chipotle and all the other fast food joints? We really can’t so the thing we can do is make it easier on ourselves and make food we actually enjoy, not the trendiest diet dish at the moment.
The American Lifestyle: Cheap, Quick and Delicious
Tip 1) Don’t over focus on calories
Calories and macro nutrients can get very complex very quickly. I had a client that hired a nutritionist to help her with her diet. The nutritionist was very knowledgeable but the program was very strict on calories and macro nutrients. Since she was a perfectionist, the whole process of planning out the menu that fits the macro nutrient and calories paralyzed her. So what happens when a person is paralyze? Procrastination kicks in and binges eating like it’s her last good meal.
So just take it easy, learn a little about the basic calories and macro nutrient but focus on just the behaviors of groceries shopping and meal prepping.
Tip 2) You don’t need to prep for a week
I used to do weight training back in high school, and during my first day we would have to form a group. My friend George wanted me to join his group because his other friend was in it. Well the only person I knew here was George so I figured why not? The three other guys were pretty big for high school kids but I wasn’t scared…. That is until we started week two.
Week one was just all the basics, agility ladder, push up, crunches and can you touch your toes tests. Those were a cakewalk, 100%, A+ for me. Then week two… this was where we actually started Bench Press, Dead lifts and Squats. So you know, actual weight lifting. We had to figure out our max for all of them and literally the 3 other guys were warming up with my max… For the whole semester I tried every single thing to catch up. I signed up for LA Fitness to go after school, and I kid you not, I ate nothing but chicken breast, rice and broccoli for a year. Not feeling chicken breast that day? Just add a different flavor of hot sauce. It was pretty miserable and the sad thing is I never even caught up to them (still got pretty strong though).
With my taste bud now as an adult I honestly don’t think I can eat chicken breast, rice and broccoli for a week straight. So I would recommend you just prep for 3 - 4 days so that you don’t suffer like I did. Weight Loss can be a very lengthy process, so spice it up, try new recipes and boost up your cooking skills!
Variety, I like that.
